Twelve agencies sorted by the job they suit, what they cost, how to check any agency's citation claims yourself, and the cases where hiring one is the wrong move.

The agency picks, prices, and test results here come from a buyer's guide published by GEO Toolbox. Its author runs prompts through four AI engines in July 2026 and cross-checks other agency roundups; none of that is independently verified here.

GEO Toolbox sells a tracker and a small GEO service and lists itself on the list, in last place, with its drawbacks stated. Prices are floors published by the firms or reported in roundups, not quotes. Confirm everything on a call.

What an AI SEO Agency Does

An AI SEO agency tries to get your brand named, cited, or recommended when people ask ChatGPT, Perplexity, Gemini, or Google's AI Overviews for a recommendation. You'll also see it called a GEO (generative engine optimization), AEO (answer engine optimization) or LLM SEO agency; the source treats these as the same job.

The demand is measurable. G2's 2026 research found 51% of B2B software buyers now begin research with an AI assistant instead of Google, up from 29% a year earlier, and one in three ended up buying from a vendor they hadn't heard of.

CommonMind found 93% of B2B SaaS marketers call AI visibility critically important, but only 14% have a mature, documented strategy. That gap is what agencies sell into.

A real engagement usually includes:

  • An AI visibility audit plus ongoing monitoring per engine, not one snapshot.
  • Content restructured so answer-first passages can be lifted into a generated response.
  • Entity and schema work so models connect your brand to the right topics.
  • Topical authority (depth and coverage), as in classic SEO.
  • Digital PR and third-party citations, since models weigh what other sites say about you.
  • Prompt-level tracking of a frozen set of buyer questions on a schedule.

Is "AI SEO" Just Rebranded SEO?

Partly. Google's own guidance says there is no secret trick for AI features: helpful content, structured data, and crawlable pages are what make you eligible. An agency pitching a brand-new methodology while ignoring your technical base is selling a label.

The new layer is still real. In Ahrefs' study of 863K keywords, the share of AI Overview citations coming from top-10 ranked pages fell from 76% in July 2025 to 38% eight months later, so ranking no longer guarantees a citation.

Whether you're cited depends on how a passage reads to a model, how clear your entity is, and whether other sources corroborate you. A rank tracker measures none of that.

Overselling runs the other way too. 6sense's 2025 buyer report found buyers used AI models mostly to summarize and organize research, not replace it, and still averaged around sixteen interactions with the vendor they chose. AI is changing discovery and shortlisting, not erasing the rest of the funnel.

Best AI SEO Agencies (2026)

The source declines to give a composite score. When it ran the same buyer prompts through ChatGPT, Perplexity, Gemini and AI Overviews in July 2026, each engine cited a materially different set of agencies, so one blended number would imply precision that doesn't exist.

Only iPullRank showed up consistently across more than one engine. Most content ranking for this query is agency-owned posts and low-authority content farms, which is why you should assume any self-including list is biased until shown otherwise, this one included.

How These Profiles Were Built

Each one starts from the GEO Toolbox guide and adds what I could find on the agency's own site, directory listings (Clutch, DesignRush), vendor partner pages, and other agencies' comparison posts. "Claims" marks the agency's own numbers.

Other agencies' comparison posts have an interest in the outcome, and listing-site reviews are self-selected, so treat both as leads to check, not verdicts. I did not speak to any agency or client.

What it costs to Have an AI SEO Agency in 2026

Few agencies publish rates, so quotes range from under $1,000 to $50,000 a month. The source's ranges, drawn from several agency pricing guides and its own research: Adding GEO to an existing SEO retainer commonly runs a 20–30% uplift, not a second full invoice (scoped add-ons can run higher; ask what the extra buys).

  • Searchbloom treats anything under roughly $1,000 a month as a warning sign for thin, automated work.
  • Two "$5,000 a month" quotes can cover very different scope. Compare pages optimized, new content vs. optimization only, off-site PR, and depth of entity and technical work.
  • Any promise of full results much faster than 3–6 months for movement, or 6–12 for revenue, is overpromising. Starting with an audit buys a baseline before a commitment.
  • Citations decay as content ages and models favor fresh sources, so part of a retainer defends existing citations. Ask the agency to split maintenance from growth.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is an AI SEO Agency?

An agency that helps your brand appear in AI-generated answers from ChatGPT, Perplexity, Gemini, and Google's AI Overviews. GEO and AEO agencies describe the same job.

How Much Does an AI SEO Agency Cost in 2026?

From about $1,000 a month for small businesses to $12,000 or more for enterprise, with mid-market around 5,000–12,000. One-off audits run 1,000–10,000. Adding GEO to an existing SEO retainer usually adds 20–30%.

Are AI SEO Agencies Worth It?

When AI visibility is a priority, your buyers use AI to research your category, and your technical foundation is sound. Not for local businesses whose buyers use Maps, broken sites, or teams that can run the basics in-house. Measure first.

Is GEO just rebranded SEO?

Partly. The fundamentals are the same, but top-10 rank no longer guarantees a citation, so per-engine tracking, entity work and answer-first content are genuinely different skills.

Can my current SEO agency do AI SEO?

Sometimes, if it already does strong technical SEO and tracks AI engines. Ask what's in the AI scope that isn't in your retainer and whether it reports per engine. Vague answers, or a full second retainer for overlapping work, are the pattern to avoid.
